Condemnation of Mrauk-U Massacre Committed by Myanmar Government
in Arakan State in Myanmar and The Unjust Arrests of the Oppositions
The Arakanese Solidarity (USA) is the united voices of the Arakanese-Americans supporting the democracy and human rights in Myanmar. We are committed in monitoring and taking action against the government atrocities and discrimination on the ethnic minorities in Myanmar.
Firstly, on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, Myanmar police forces opened fire on unarmed Arakanese youth protesters who were protesting the authorities due to their unannounced banning of the previously permitted public event commemorating the 233rd anniversary of the fall of Arakanese Kingdom into Burmese Colony in 1784. The Myanmar police forces indiscriminatingly shot into the protesting crowd and slaughtered seven innocent young men and critically injured dozens others. The killing was absolutely unjustified and unlawful. It was a clear act of the violation of internal laws and human rights. We condemn this atrocity in the strongest term.
Secondly, there have been unlawful suppressions of the political opponents of the Myanmar Government starting January, 2018. Dr. Aye Maung, a Member of National Parliament of the Arakanese National Party of Ann Township Constituency and U Wae Han Aung, a well-known writer and a prominent government critic were arrested by Myanmar authorities based on unfounded and unjust accusations such as the violation of the Section 17(1) of Unlawful Associations Act, as well as the Section 121 and 505 of the Penal Code, high treason against the government due to their speeches criticizing the actions of Myanmar government. We believe those arrests and suppressions of the government opponents are unlawful. We strongly oppose any such arrests and condemn the Myanmar Government.
Finally, we demand the Myanmar Government to investigate, prosecute those who took part in the Mrauk-U massacre and prevent the killings of innocent citizens. We demand the Myanmar Government to release Dr. Aye Maung, U Wai Han Aung and all prisoners who have been detained under the undemocratic and unjust laws including Section 17(1), 121 and 505. We also demand the Myanmar Government to abolish all undemocratic laws. We also demand that the Myanmar Government must respect basic human rights including the freedom of speech, the freedom of expression and the freedom of association.

The Statement of Regarding on Brutal Suppression and Unlawful Arrests of Dr. Aye Maung and U Wae Han Aung of Burmese Government in Arakan
We, Arakaneses American family in Arizona, would like to express our deepest condolences for seven protectors were inhumanly killed and twelve innocent people were seriously hurt by the police in Mrauk U on Tuesday 16, 2018. This incident occurred as a course of effect after banning to hold the 233 years remembering event of the Arakan Kingdom sovereignty fallen day.
Unexpectedly, we are too concerned of the arrests of Dr. Aye Maung, one of the Arakan national leaders, and writer U Wae Han Aung a.k. U Aung Kyaw Win in Sittway jail after speaking out of their opinions about states of Arakan in Rathay Toung on Monday, January 15, 2018.
Recently, they had filed with the charge under Section 17(1) of Unlawful Associations Act and 505 of the Penal Code during the appearing in the Rathay Toung court because they explained the current political situation of Arakan.
In addition, so called Arakan State government has arranged to file charges against Dr. Aye Maung, U San Hla Faw, and his colleagues, who were Ceremony Celebrating Committee of Arakan Kingdom lost day, under Section 121 Penal Code.
The arresting of Dr. Aye Maung and U Wae Han Aung are unfair, unethical, and unjustified. Burmese government must respect the freedom of expression and freedom of assembly are the basic rights of democracy and everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression are the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
We strongly condemn the brutal killings of Police to civilians on Tuesday in Mrauk U and call for a full investigation with transparent honesty committee as soon as possible. And we urge Burmese authorities who are arbitrarily committed crimes against protesters, criminals must be accountable and responsible in the incident.
Finally, we strongly demand to the Burmese government must be released to the unlawful arrests of Dr. Aye Maung, U Wae Han Aung, and other injured victims in Sittway immediately.
